Breeding Your Tokota | Breeding and Genotypes Guide | Genetics and Mutations | Manes Guide | Breeding Request Rules

One of the major aspects of the game is breeding your Tokotas, while it may seem a bit complex at first glance, it is actually very simple. Before you begin, if you're new to genetics or want to breed something specific, take a look at this handy guide!

First Step

Locate a breeding pair. If you wish to avoid inbreeding penalties, be careful that they are not immediately related (not related within visible lineage). A tool that you can use to help check for inbreeding is the Lineage Checker. Just copy and paste the two lineages into the appropriate boxes and hit 'check'! These tokotas can be two tokotas of your own, two belonging to others that you have permission to breed, or one of each. You may only breed when both parents have the Arms of Akna badge posted on their award walls. If you are sharing a litter, please work out all deals with the other owner. Make sure there is a mutual understanding of who receives first pick, etc.

Second Step

Make sure approval has been posted on the appropriate thread by TokoTime by the owner of the tokota if one or more of the parents does not belong to you. Then, fill out the form in Breeding Requests and wait for genotypes to be given in reply. If the litter is shared, you must reply listing who the pups will belong to.

More Information

Arms of Akna

Before you can breed your tokota, it must pass what are known as the Rites of Fertility and be awarded an Arms of Akna Award. The rites of fertility are a series of trials that will test your tokota, in order to determine whether they are fit to breed or not.

Fertility Supplements, Roots and Close Care

For an increased chance to have more puppies in a litter, you can apply fertility items to your breeding. Fertility Supplements and Close Care can be purchased at the Trading Post, while Fertility Roots can be found while exploring. You can apply/purchase these directly on your breeding request.

More information on litter sizes and how these items can affect your breeding can be found at the bottom of this journal.

Inbreeding and Hereditary Defects

One of the most important things you must check to see before picking a sire or dam to breed with your tokota is to check and see if they're related. Inbreeding is allowed within tokotas, but breeding siblings, cousins, or any relative within visible lineage may have health and genetic consequences, including stillbirths and infertility. Tokotas who are inbred are also at risk of passing these genetic defects onto their offspring, until the similar names are bred off of the lineage.

Inbred tokotas will receive an automatic novice score on their AoAs.

Defect Penalties

  • Blind: Tokotas that are blind will receive a -5% to success in any Fishing activity. These tokotas also cannot particpate in Working events.
  • Deaf: Tokotas that are deaf will receive a -5% to success in any Hunting activity. These tokotas also cannot particpate in Teamwork events.
  • Frail: Tokotas that are frail will receive a -5% to success in any Diving activity. These tokotas also cannot particpate in Playing events.
  • Lame: Tokotas that are lame will receive a -5% to success in any Caving activity. These tokotas also cannot particpate in Racing events.
  • Spinal Defects: Tokotas that have spinal defects will receive -5% to success in any Exploration activity. These tokotas also cannot particpate in Performing events.

Hereditary Trait Benefits

Some tokotas have Hereditary Traits that have a certain chance of being passed onto their offspring, depending on their rarity. These provide a wide range of advantages, including some that might affect the outcome of your breeding! If both parents in a breeding share the same hereditary trait, the chance to pass that trait does not increase compared to if only one parent has the trait. Breeding effects provided by certain traits also do not stack in breedings.

Physical Traits may also be passed on but have no advantages other than being cosmetic. If both parents in a breeding share the same physical trait, the chance to pass the trait does increase compared to if only one parent has the physical trait.

Hierarchy Status and Inheritance

(See Hierarchy System for more information.)

Tokotas who are of submissive hierarchy status are not able to breed, although they can still earn their Arms of Akna.

While all tokotas are fully capable of rising in hierarchy, they are born into one of two of the hierarchy statuses. When tokos with different hierarchy statuses are bred to each other, offspring will be born as follows:

Dominant x Dominant = Average
Dominant x Average = Average
Average x Average = Submissive*

*If a tokota has acquired the trait Prominent there is a chance that breeding two Average tokotas can result in Average pups. For more information on Prominent, visit the Bonding Guide.
Pups cannot be born dominant: dominance must be achieved through experience such as activities, training, events and competitions.

Breeding Limitations

All Tokotas have limitations on how much they can breed. When trying to breed past the slot limit, the breeding will be declined. Breeding slots do not stack. This means that, for example with a normal build male, if you use all 15 slots at average, you do not get 35 more slots at dominant.

Normal/Toki Builds

Male

  • Average: 15 slots total.
  • Dominant: 35 slots total.
  • Alpha: No additional slots are unlocked.
  • For every 100 HP after dominance, males can unlock 5 more slots at Hierarchy Updates, up to a total of 65 extra slots.

Female

  • Average: 15 slots total.
  • Dominant: 20 slots total.
  • Alpha: 30 slots total.
  • Akna's Presence Trait: 25 slots at average, 30 slots at dominant, 40 slots at alpha
  • For every 100 HP after dominance, females can unlock 2 more slots at Hierarchy Updates, up to a total of 10 extra slots.

Dire Build

Male

  • Average : 8 slots total.
  • Dominant: 11 slots total.
  • Alpha: 17 slots total.
  • Exemplary Dire Blood Trait: 11 slots at average, 15 slots at dominant, 21 slots at alpha.
  • Exemplary Dire Blood II Trait: 17 slots at dominant, 23 slots at alpha.
  • For every 100 HP after dominance males can unlock 1 more slot at Hierarchy Updates, up to a total of 5 extra slots.

Female

  • Average: 5 slots total.
  • Dominant: 10 slots total.
  • Alpha: 17 slots total.
  • Exemplary Dire Blood Trait: 10 slots at submissive/average, 12 slots at dominant, 19 slots at alpha.
  • Exemplary Dire Blood II Trait: 14 slots at dominant, 21 slots at alpha.
  • For every 100 HP after dominance females can unlock 1 more slot at Hierarchy Updates, up to a total of 5 extra slots.

Akota Build

Male

  • Average: 6 slots total.
  • Gentle Akota Bloodlines: Grants the Akota with this trait 2 additional lifetime breeding slots.
  • For every 150 HP after dominance males can unlock 1 more slot at Hierarchy Updates, up to a total of 4 extra slots.

Female

  • Average: 4 slots total.
  • Gentle Akota Bloodlines: Grants the Akota with this trait 2 additional lifetime breeding slots.
  • For every 150 HP after dominance females can unlock 1 more slot at Hierarchy Updates, up to a total of 4 extra slots.

To keep an eye on where your chosen parents - or you - are relative to their breeding limits, check the trackers that can be found in the Breeding Requests journal.

Litter Sizes

The division or sale of a litter of pups must be decided amongst both owners. The group will only settle disputes in which there is very clear and specific proof of the deal. Many things will affect the size of the litter.

Maximum litter size

Normal/Toki x Normal/Toki

Standard: 4
Dominant dam and/or fertility root: 5
Fertility supplements: 6

Dire x Normal

Standard: 3
Dominant dam and/or fertility root: 4
Fertility supplements: 5

Dire x Dire

Standard: 2
Dominant dam OR close care: 3
Dominant dam AND close care: 4

Akota x Dire

Standard: 1
Dominant Akota dam or sire: 2

Akota x Akota

Standard: 1
Dominant Akota dam or sire: 2

Companions

Hare Companion: 25% chance to add another pup onto the normal roll.
Swan Companion: 1-5 pups rolled in each litter (1-6 if tokota is Dom). Does not work on Dire x Dire breedings.

Dire Breeding Percentages

This section enables you to find the chance of rolling dire pups in a breeding, along with what percentage of dire blood those pups would have. Simply find the lowest percentage parent's section, then the box that crosses it with the higher parent. The first line is the proportion of dire blood any dire pups will have. The second and third line show the chance out of 100 each pup has to be dire (D) vs normal (N).

Hi, so, when submitting a Toko to Design Central, the Toko is listed as Inbred, but when I check it on the lineage checker, the checker says not inbred.

the inbreeding doesn’t show on the lineage, will she still get a Novice score on her AoAs automatically?
